Big Gipp "Hot"

Remixed by Treasure Fingers, Klever, Rob Wonder

Scion Audio Visual (Scion A/V) is back again with some of today's hottest names in music to produce another exclusive release just for you. Partnering this time with one of ATL's finest, Big Gipp, as well as rising stars form the dirty south dance and electronic music scene in Atlanta, Scion once again brings the heat with exclusive remixes from Treasure Fingers, Klever and Rob Wonder.

1. Treasure Fingers Remix - Fool's Gold recording artist Treasure Fingers is making considerable noise these days with his funky disco sound. His version of this tune is pure four on the floor fire with an unforgettable lead synth-line and bouncy bass line. Everything from the drums, percussion, guitars, keys, and arrangement are spot-on here, guaranteed to blow the roof off the roller derby.

2. Klever Remix - Klever bumps up the tempo on his remix of this tune to 136 BPM, transforming it into something reminiscent of 80s mega-group Berlin. The chord progression, ill vocal chops and intro build, and aggressive synths should make an electro crowd bug out at prime time.

3. Rob Wonder Remix - DJ Rob Wonder takes the minimalist approach on his remix, flipping it into a Baltimore Club style track at 140 BPM. The drums take center stage on Mr. Wonder's version and they swing like crazy over a simple but hard horn-like synth loop.

Modular

Scion Audio Visual (Scion A/V) has once again partnered with some of the best names in the biz to produce another exclusive release. This time Scion A/V has teamed up with Australia's Modular Records for the Modular Remixed mini-compilation, featuring 4 popular tracks from the current Modular artillery, given the spit and polish by 4 thrilling up and coming acts from different corners of the globe and genres.

This Modular Remixed mini-compilation features 4 popular tracks from the current Modular artillery, given the spit and polish by 4 thrilling up and coming acts from different corners of the globe and genres.

Rio is a highlight of the recent album by The Bumblebeez, Prince Umberto & The Sister of Ill and it's given a slamming dancefloor beef up by East London's Boy 8-Bit. Boy 8-Bit is a part of London's all conquering fidget house scene and has recently broadened his wings to release on Diplo's Mad Decent label, and his remix is a straight up strobe light grind.

White Williams released one of this year's best debut albums in the shape of Smoke, his beautifully weird, lo-fi electronic pop gem. The New York native turned out to be the perfect fit for Muscles, and transformed the originally slamming, dark dancefloor jam The Lake into a melancholy dreamscape of a tune.

F.A.N. was a sleeper hit on the New Young Pony Club album Fantastic Playroom, and here in the hands of Tampa Bay, Florida's riot-starting Yo Majesty is turned into the kind of house party classic it always wanted to be. Beyond just remixing the song, the girls from Yo Majesty have added their own raps and taken the song to a whole new place entirely, and it's a grand place to be.

The Presets have slowly but stealthily gone about world domination and with the release of their new record, Apocalypso, they've gone within a whisper of it. This Boy's In Love is the lovelorn centrepiece of the new record, and appears here remixed by Detroit techno don Kevin Saunderson. Taking in elements of the Detroit sound he's become so well known and loved for, Kevin Saunderson is the perfect foil for The Presets, turning This Boy's In Love into a winding, disorienting techno journey custom made for dark dancefloors.

Modular was established in 1998. and since then has released records by the likes of The Avalanches, Wolfmother, Cut Copy, The Presets, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Chromeo and loads more. 2008 will see new music from Cut Copy, The Presets, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Tame Impala, The Bumblebeez and The Bang Gang Deejays.

EPMD "Run It"

Featuring Herves, Sinden, Duke Dumont

Scion Audio Visual (Scion A/V) has once again partnered with some of the best names in the biz to produce another exclusive release. This time Scion A/V has teamed up with legendary NYC hip hop duo EPMD and some of the most talented dance music producers from London, UK to present another package full of bangers.

1.Herves Got His Hands Up Remix - An original member of the all- pervasive Dubsided crew out of London (run by Dave 'Switch' Taylor) Herve bumps up the BPM to 125 and loops the vocal over a hard buzzing synth bassline. This one is definitely a prime time sure shot- grimey and in your face. Herve now releases via his own Cheap Thrills imprint and is getting ready to drop an album for Domino Records collaborating with Sinden under The Count & Sinden banner

2. Sinden Remix - Possibly best known for his and The Count's underground dance hit "Beeper" featuring Kid Sister, UK producer Sinden puts his signature touch on this EPMD track, transforming it into a dancefloor stomper. Looping Erick Sermon's "Hands Up" sample over a wobbly bassline and UK Garage-style drums, Sinden once again flips the track into an anthem unmistakably his own.

3. Duke Dumont Mix - Up-and-coming producer Duke Dumont flips the track in a truly unique fashion using a bhangra-style drum loop and eastern flute sample. Clocking in at 93 BPM, this version sounds like an Egyptian block party banger with some of the freshest drums this side of the orient.

45 King

Featuring Wale, Pase Rock, 4th Pyramid

Crafty veteran meets brash newcomer. It’s a timeless cinematic formula, but on this latest edition in the Scion A/V series we have done it a little differently this time. 45 King, producer of “Hard Knock Life”, “Stan”, and dozen other hip hop classics, plays the role of the old-school champ, dropping four jewels from his bottomless catalog of beats. The youngsters are represented by man-of-the-moment Wale, crowd controller Pase Rock and 4th Pyramid, with In Flagranti, Eli Escobar, DJ Ayres and Sammy Bananas doing remix duty.

DC native Wale is a natural to bless the downtempo 45 King special “Roof” with its’ bossa guitar, menacing bass, and drums. The Rub’s DJ Ayres takes his remix of “Roof” straight to the party, disco style, with live bass, synth snares and plenty of cowbell.

“Strings” is really the only appropriate name for this cello-strewn 45 King beat, but don’t expect Beethoven. The trademark 45 King kick and snare are in effect, and Wale’s lovesick lyrics skate the rails and ledges effortlessly. The boys of In Flagranti aren’t having any of this love business, though. Their “Strings” remix spits metal guitar and hi-hat shreds over a sawtooth bass line.

You can put down the dictionary, the definition of “anthem” is 45 King’s “900 Number.” The ageless roof-raiser gets twin 2k8 reworks, with Pase Rock showing the party people how it’s done on the mic over the original and NYC veteran Eli Escobar coming with a jacking remix that slices the signature sax line over a crunchy electro bass.

Def Jux survivor and T-Dot repper 4th Pyramid turns it out on “P-Y-R-A-M-I-D.” 45 King’s horn-filled bouncy groove is a throwback, but it seems like Sammy Bananas didn’t get the memo. His “P-Y-R-A-M-I-D” remix ups the tempo with rude bass and bits of pitched vocals for a thoroughly 2008 vibe.

Ghostface Killah

Ghostface Killah Vs. Rhythm Roots All-Stars

This installment of the Scion A/V series features world renowned hip-hop emcee Ghostface Killah of Wu-Tang Clan fame, who provides his traditionally rugged and eccentric lyrics over music produced by the Los Angeles-based band the Rhythm Roots All-Stars. These original LA funksters are no strangers to backing rap icons, having worked with everyone from Talib Kweli to Slick Rick to Big Daddy Kane. For their tango with the Ghostface Killah they flip the usual script and come out the box with a menacing cinematic vibe layered with some diwali handclaps.

Ghostface Killah Remixed

Featuring DJ Mehdi, Yuksek, Orgasmic, Guns N' Bombs

This installment of the Scion A/V Remix series is stacked with four unique dance remixes of Ghostface Killah’s "Charlie Brown" by world renowned French electro producers Yuksek, Orgasmic and DJ Mehdi, as well as Los Angeles-based DJ and production duo Guns N’ Bombs.

Who better to kick things off than French producer, DJ Mehdi. Utilizing a guest verse from international rap star Mapei, Mehdi keeps the tempo of the original intact but warps the setting to a dark basement club.

Orgasmic is French hip hop crew TTC’s DJ and producer, well-known to electro crunk connoisseurs. Keeping Ghost’s verse intact but elevating the tempo, his remix goes straight Detroit-via-Versailles.

You might want to check your bassbins before running Yuksek’s take on “Charlie Brown.” Everything solid? Good, because the heavy club kick and buzzsaw synths are shredding everything in their path on his big sound revamp.

Last, but not least, Guns N’ Bombs electro rework if filled with thoroughly rude bass and twisted vocal treatments.

Little Brother

Designated Hitters vs. Little Brother feat. Carlitta Durand

Designated Hitters, the Los Angeles production duo of Tyler "Tycoon" Coomes and David "Leggo" Rojas, have had their hands in just about everything lately. Producing, recording, touring and programming, the Designated Hitters have individually and together created a unique sound which has crossed genres and platforms within the film/TV music & record industry.

On this release of the Scion A/V series, Designated Hitters team up with soulful hip-hop artist Little Brother to bring you both an original and remix version of the track, “Time Of Your Life”. Formed in 2001 at North Carolina Central University, NC, Little Brother have become essential names in hip-hop circles worldwide. Singer Carlitta Durand provides the back-up vocals on this feel good, laid back knocker made for headphones and club monitors.

Big Daddy Kane and Percee P vs. Connie Price and the Keystones

Big Daddy Kane and Percee P vs. Connie Price and the Keystones

Connie Price & the Keystones began as a recording project for Stones Throw's Now-Again label involving Dan Ubick (Breakestra, Madlib's Sound Directions) and Todd M. Simon (Macy Gray, Antibalas, El Michels Affair). Combining elements of soul, afro beat, dub reggae, late 60's/early 70's film scores, and psychedelic rock & jazz into a soundtrack for the best film you've never seen. On this installment in the Scion A/V series, Connie Price & The Keystones revisit the classic Big Daddy Kane track for "Give A Demonstration Part 2" complete with new vocals from Big Daddy Kane himself. Percee P is featured on the B-Side "International Hustler".

daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra

Scion A/V 12"

Featuring over 65 musicians, daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra is one of Los Angeles' most unique musical experiences. Having started as a 25 piece ensemble in 1999, word soon spread and both the band and its following started to grow.
In 2004, the ensemble participated in the opening season of the prestigious Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA, playing to a full capacity, cheering crowd. Now in its 6th year, daKAH is finally traveling beyond the LA city limits, with recent shows at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts and the House of Blues in Las Vegas. The year 2005 sees upcoming shows in Austin, San Francisco, Scottsdale, AZ, and the Playboy Jazz Festival.
The list of bands and musicians that they've played with is way too long for the space we have here, but to learn more please visit Hip Hop Orchestra's site.

El Michels Affair

featuring Raekwon

The latest 12" vinyl installment in the Scion A/V series sees Brooklyn's El Michels Affair, from Truth & Soul Records, paired up with hip-hop legend Raekwon (of Wu-Tang Clan) for a "live remix" of Raekwon's song "PJs," as well as an original El Michels song and a couple interlude/bonus beats. Raekwon wrote some new lyrics for the "PJs" track, and El Michels flipped it with their signature vintage soul sound. Listen to it right here, right now.

GZA with the Fyre Dept.

Animal Planet and "Fame"

Genius/GZA is a member of the legendary NYC-based hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, and considered one of the best intellectual MCs in the game. He has several solo albums, including Legend of the Liquid Sword, where the original versions of the SA/V songs 'Animal Planet' and 'Fame' appear.

Rhythm Roots All-Stars

featuring Raheem DeVaughn, Aloe Blacc, Afrodisiac Soundsystem

Birthed in November 1999, The Rhythm Roots All-Stars began as the house band for the Rhythm Room, a Sunday night dance club that remained a weekly ritual for years at the Temple Bar in Los Angeles. Combining elements of funk, latin, calypsoul, electro-brazillian, dancehall, afrobeat, etc., this tight ten piece ensemble ignites dance floors with its unique blend of raw yet sophisticated dance music. They have members that have played in Breakestra, Dakah Hip-Hop Orchestra, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Ben Harper's band, and many others. Loaded with an arsenal of drums and percussion, a full horn section, guitars, bass, steel pans, as well as guest dj's, mc's and vocalists, the The Rhythm Roots All-Stars creates a huge, celebratory sound all it's own, firmly rooted in the great groove music we all know and love, while pushing into exciting new musical realms.

Fools Gold Remixed

Fool's Gold is your new favorite record label. Founded by DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs as the natural extension of years spent sharing new music and brainstorming on various creative projects. "This DJ scene that we're a part of in North America has influenced music scenes across the world, but ironically there aren't enough labels that represent it," says A-Trak. "That's where Fool's Gold comes in. A label where we can release Jokers Of The Scene and Kid Sister side-to-side without it being a stretch--and what's great with Fool's Gold is that it's not forced, since we're all just friends putting out each other's music." "To me, Fool's Gold is the modern version of what labels like Sleeping Bag and Nervous were doing back in the 80s and early 90s," says Nick Catchdubs. "They would put out house records and freestyle records at the same time as Black Moon or some experimental Arthur Russell single, and it all made sense. I want Fool's Gold to represent the absolute best in club music on all levels." Helping tie everything together is Brooklyn graphic artist Dust La Rock, whose original imagery for all Fool's Gold logos and sleeve art provides a clever and constantly evolving visual aesthetic for the label.

Scion CD Sampler Vol. 20

mixed by LA Riots

Electronic music has found a new hub in Los Angeles in the form of DJ duo Jo'B and Daniel Ledisko, better known as LA Riots. Taking their moniker from the infamous riots that blazed across the city in 1992, LA Riots has quickly established themselves at the forefront of the electronic music scene - DJ'ing high profile clubs and events across the country and churning out club bangers that have caught the ear of audiences and artists alike.

Having recently remixed such artists as Scanners, Le Castlevania, Mystery Jets, Chromeo, Jupiter One, Photek, Kid Sister and Justice, LA Riots has been tearing up the highly fickle music blogosphere and is quickly gaining momentum within the mainstream music industry as well. Up next, expect to see further remixes of such acts as VHS or Beta and The Cure.

Individually, both Jo'B and Daniel Ledisko have been heavily involved in the electronic music scene since the mid 90's. It is from their varied backgrounds that LA Riots have honed their craft, delivering an explosive sound that has taken over clubs from Los Angeles to New York and across the world. As the electronic genre continues to take shape and evolve, expect to see LA Riots there alongside it - bringing their unique energy to the masses and setting dancefloors on fire.

Scion CD Sampler v.17

VICE Records mixed by Flosstradamus

Established DJs in Chicago prior to their alliance as Flosstradamus, J2K (Josh Young) and Autobot (Curt Cameruci) initially linked up in 2005 and started performing as a duo. With influences rooted in punk and hip-hop, Flosstradamus brought normally divided crowds together through their unique mixes of hip-hop, house, original remixes, and juke.

A monthly party soon followed ("Get Outta The Hood") at Chicago's Town Hall Pub, and within a year Flosstradamus turned a stagnant bar into the proverbial place-to-be, with lines stretching down the block as sweaty kids crowd surfed and got down inside.

National press soon began to take notice, including MTV and The Fader. Appearances followed at SXSW, CMJ, the Pitchfork Festival, and Pop Montreal; parties for VICE, The Fader, Jane Magazine, DKNY, and Puma; and performances with Clipse, Common, and Rick Ross. Look for a 2007 full length Flosstradamus LP.

VICE Records began in 2002 and is home to Bloc Party, The Streets, Boredoms, Justice, The Black Lips, Ed Banger Records, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Stills, Chromeo, Panthers, 120 Days, and Favourite Sons.

During his life as a DJ, Cutler has freaked all kinds of funk and has blown all kinds of loot on nasty records. When not traversing the globe in search of good jazz on his bicycle, he does so in a van with his Buffalo- based group, Pseudo Slang.
